Returning to the Concerts on the Desert series at St. Barnabas, Karen, Christopher, and Olga will be joined with Associate Principal Cello of The Phoenix Symphony, Bridget Pasker, in a program of four vast and wide-ranging works. The program opens with Beethoven's uncharacteristically light and carefree String Serenade in D Major for violin, viola and cello. The piece displays the inherent qualities of each individual instrument and weaves them together with melodic and textural clarity. Polish-German composer Philipp Scharwenka's "Sonata Fantasia" in G Minor for viola and piano, written just before the turn of the 20th century, sets a moodier soundscape with its long-form lamentations and dramatic outbursts. The second half explores the Duet for Violin and Viola in C Major by Jean Sibelius, and the program concludes with Maurice Ravel’s masterful Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 2 in G Major.
