This program begins with the amicable Flute Quartet in C Major by classical French composer François Devienne, before taking a dramatic shift to the hauntingly bleak and remote landscape of the Andes mountains in Argentinian Alberto Ginastera's beautiful Impresiones de la Puna for flute and string quartet. Next, Frank Bridge's Novelletten for String Quartet, a collection of three charming character pieces written when he was just 24, offers an example of the English composer's pre-modernist work. The program concludes with living composer Alistair Coleman's Broadacre City, a fascinating musical depiction of Frank Lloyd Wright's visionary urban planning concept.
